FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the difference between the Ryman-Carroll Foundation, Ryman Arts and the Ryman Program for Young Artists?
One might track Ryman Arts’ history by the evolution of its names.  Legally, Ryman Arts is still the Ryman-Carroll Foundation.  Ryman Arts is the organization’s popular name used publicly to streamline communications.  We arrived at the name, Ryman Arts, through a re-branding process led by board member Bob Rogers, Wayne Hunt and Ryman Arts alumnus, Insung Kim (Ryman ’93) of Hunt Design. Previous to our name change in 2005, Ryman Arts was known as the Ryman Program for Young Artists, and previous to that, we were known as Herbert D. Ryman Living Masters Program.

I have artwork that I believe was made by Herbert D. Ryman. How much is it worth?
While we are happy to know the owners and location of Ryman artworks, we are not equipped to answer this question.  We encourage that you contact a qualified art appraiser who specializes in 20th Century American Art.  We also recommend that you purchase A Brush with Disney: An Artist’s Journey, if you do not already own it. For other queries, please contact us by e-mailing info@ryman.org .

Do you sell artwork by Herbert D. Ryman or by your students? How can I buy a piece?
Yes. We sell select works by Herbert D. Ryman at fundraisers. We occasionally sell Ryman Arts student artwork. If you are interested in a piece you see on this website, contact Ryman Arts to request more information. Ryman Arts staff will contact the student to agree on a price, arrange for delivery, and manage payment.  We facilitate the transaction and the students donate half of the sale price to support the Ryman Arts program.

Do you offer in-school art programs for youth?
Ryman Arts conducts targeted outreach drawing workshops with Los Angeles inner-city high schools.  These are multi-session workshops in which a Ryman Arts teaching artist leads high school art students in life drawing exercises in preparation for their full Ryman Arts program application.
